Dead, 2 Injured in Shooting at Cincinnati Bank - Hit & Run

Four people including suspect killed during shooting in downtown Cincinnati bank

Google Maps Police responded to a shooting at a Cincinnati bank on Thursday morning.

According to Cincinnati Police, around 9am an active shooter incident was called in at the Fifth Third Bank at 511 Walnut Street at Fountain Square downtown.

We are learning more about gunman Omar Enrique Santa-Perez, who was fatally shot by officers responding to the shooting.

The victims apparently were shot at random by the gunman, who had no accomplices, Issac said. For example, the newspaper reports that one victim was found in a local ice cream shop and another was discovered at 5th and Walnut. It's unclear if the gunman shot himself or was shot by officers, police said.

Cincinnati Police tweeted that they are investigating the shooting which occurred in the lobby of Fifth Third Bank.

Michael Richardson, who works in the building, was just outside the main doors smoking a cigarette when he heard gunshots.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officials arrived on the scene to sweep the building, ATF spokeswoman Suzanne Dabkowski said. At least four people have been taken to hospital.

"They were dropping to the ground to get away, trying to find a way to protect themselves", she told Local 12 News.

The shooting happened near Cincinnati's landmark Fountain Square.

Three people died of their wounds and two others remained hospitalized.

Chief Isaac says Santa Perez acted as a lone shooter, using a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, and had at least 200 rounds of ammunition with him. "This is abnormal. No other industrialized country has this level of active multiple shootings on a regular basis", Mayor John Cranley said about the shooting.

"I made it out to see my kids, to see another day", she said with relief.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said the rapid police response probably prevented many more casualties.

Police said the gunman, a Cincinnati-area resident since 2015, wasn't a current or past Fifth Third employee.

The newspaper said at least one of the victims was shot at an ice cream shop at the corner of the bank's headquarters.

Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley said: "We send our prayers to the victims and their families".

A witness said a woman walked into the bank wearing headphones, and she did not hear warnings not to enter.

A witness told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he heard up to 15 shots fired. The bank added that it was cooperating with law enforcement and is "grateful for the support and concerns from our neighbors throughout Cincinnati and the country". The company in a statement said it's working with law enforcement and offers thoughts and prayers for "everyone caught up in this awful event".
