More Women Accuse CBS Head Les Moonves of Sexual Abuse

CBS reaches deal with CEO Leslie Moonves amid new sexual harassment claims

CBS chief Les Moonves has resigned after six more women accused the long-time television executive of sexual misconduct. The publication says he will donate 20 million dollars to the #MeToo movement and says his relationships with three women were all consensual and calls the allegations "untrue".

The New Yorker reported on Sunday (Sep 9) that the women say they were harassed or assaulted between 1980 and the early 2000s by Moonves, who in more than two decades with the network helped lift it from last place to profitable status as America's most-watched.

The CBS statement on Sunday said that Moonves will not receive any severance benefits at this time, and any future payment will depend upon the results of the independent investigation.

The network's chief operating officer, Joseph Ianniello, will serve as president and acting CEO until CBS's Boafrd of Directors looks for a replcacement.

In the time that our article was being finalized and reviewed, a new article was published by the New Yorker featuring six additional women coming forward with assault and harassment claims against Moonves.

According to Deadline, the Moonves responded to the New Yorker report in a statement that claimed three of the six accusations were from women with whom he had consensual encounters. The investigation is ongoing. "And I have never used my position to hinder the advancement or careers of women", Moonves said in a statement.

"We view Ianniello's elevation to temporary CEO as the best choice for CBS and its shareholders", Cowen analyst Doug Creutz wrote in a client note.

However, amid these recent allegations, two sources cited by the Los Angeles Times have claimed that Moonves is reportedly expected to resign from his position at the network, which he's held for 15 years, either late Sunday evening or early Monday morning, September 10.

"Remember that the world is watching", Time's Up said in a statement.

A former senior CBS official told FOX Business in July, just after Farrow's first article about the allegations was published, that Mooves was likely to be replaced due to the seriousness of the accusations, but noted that internal candidates are "weak".

Another woman, Jessica Pallingston, said Moonves had forced her to perform oral sex on her first day working as his assistant at Warner Bros. productions.

Six more women have made bone-chilling allegations of abuse, harassment and retaliation against Les Moonves.

Moonves was an advocate for the traditional broadcast network model when others anxious it was becoming obsolete, but he also launched streaming services for CBS entertainment and news.

"I am deeply saddened to be leaving the company", Moonves added, calling it "an incredible privilege" to have worked for CBS.

Along with Moonves's departure, CBS said it had agreet to settle a lawsuit with National Amusements pending in DE that would appoint six new independent directors to the board. "He has gotten away with it for decades", the writer Janet Jones, who alleges that she had to shove Moonves off her after he forcibly kissed her at a work meeting, told me. "Anyone who knows me knows that the person described in this article is not me".

The company also reached a deal to settle litigation over the control of the company with National Amusements in a deal expected to be announced as early as before the markets open on Monday, sources told Reuters. She said he then began to retaliate against her on the job.

A representative of CBS controlling shareholder Shari Redstone and National Amusements declined to comment.
