Trump aide says sex claim against Brett Kavanaugh should be heard

An allegation of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh has fueled a growing tribalism among the alumni of elite D.C. prep schools.

"The party of Bill Clinton and Keith Ellison are trying to lecture Americans", she said. The person described Kavanaugh as "resolute" and eager to defend himself.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, said on radio's Hugh Hewitt Show that he'd not yet received confirmation from the accuser that she would appear at Monday's hearing, despite several attempts to reach her. He declined to say whether Kavanaugh had offered to withdraw, dismissing the question as "ridiculous". Ford blames the therapist for not accurately recording what she said. They are insisting that the hearing be delayed to further explore the allegations.

"So it kind of raises the question, do they want to come to the public hearing or not?" He told reporters at the White House: "If it takes a little delay, it will take a little delay". "They have done now, supposedly, six background checks as Judge Kavanaugh has gone beautifully up a ladder".

Republicans responded that reopening the investigation is up to the White House and they are sticking with their plans for a Monday hearing - with or without Ford's participation.

Trump spoke Tuesday at a joint press conference with the president of Poland. ("I feel like she has something wrong with her", said one, "and I am surprised no one has caught this.") But the woman accusing Kavanaugh is Christine B. Ford of Palo Alto University.

A Judiciary committee statement Sunday accused Democrats of hiding Ford's allegations until the eve of the committee vote.

That incident inspired a record number of women to run for federal office that cycle, including Murray, who was elected the following year.

"If Republicans attack Dr. Ford and this turns into anything like what we saw in 1991, women across the country are going to rise up and make their voice heard and Republicans will pay a very huge price", Murray said. "And that's why, to be fair to both, we need to know what happened".

Lawmakers have not made any request for Ford to testify publicly before the Judiciary Committee.

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren tweeted yesterday, "Christine Blasey Ford is courageous, deserves to be heard, and treated with respect as she raises new questions about Brett Kavanaugh". "We should not have gotten to this point". That is the view that buoys Republicans and haunts Democrats as the Kavanaugh nomination moves to its final, dramatic phase.

Republicans have accused California Sen.

Republican leadership on the Judiciary Committee have questioned the timing of the revelation of Ford's letter and her allegation, coming just as the committee was preparing to vote on the nomination on Thursday. Limiting the hearing to just Kavanaugh and Ford would be "inadequate, unfair, wrong and a desire not to get at the whole truth", Schumer said.

"A lot more people believe the right thing is to believe a woman's charges, especially when a woman is willing to go public", says Jim Manley, former spokesman for retired Sen. "What we've lost because of the way this has been handled is the chance to flesh out contradictions in versions, to go back and forth to the parties confidentially, in part because now that it's so public it will be a one-shot deal". All 11 Republicans on the committee are men.

While the system may be in no better shape to soberly evaluate the claims, Hill said, the populace is at least better prepared to hear them.

If Ms. Ford were to walk into a NY police station this year and tell her story from the early 1980s, Mr. Kobilinsky said, "they'd probably tell her to get lost".
