Apple 'temporarily' blocks Google's internal iOS apps, too

Facebook in trouble after 'paying teens to install spy app on their phones'

Facebook's ranking as the best place to work in the U.S. takes a dive after 2018's scandals.

"To use it this way, and under their own name, is just fantastic to me".

Since 2016, the company has paid users between ages 13 and 35 up to $20 per month (as well as referral fees) to sell their data and privacy by installing its now controversial app on iOS or Android.

Upon downloading the app, users complete a survey and are then sent a special code that allows them to download the Enterprise Certificate-based VPN app that is then used to track all of their app and Internet use. "Despite early reports, there was nothing "secret" about this; it was literally called the Facebook Research App", the spokesperson argued.

As the Wall Street Journal had reported in 2017, Facebook had used the Onavo-supplied data to track its competition and scope out new product categories.

Among the data collected, the VPN was able to grab everything from private messages off of social media and messaging apps to screenshots of a user's Amazon order history page. So, it made a decision to pay users to get access to their phones.

Facebook has been under fire for months over its privacy practices and role in the 2016 USA presidential election.

For example: Facebook learned about TikTok and Snapchat through data-monitoring. The enlightenment resulted in $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp in 2014. When workers went to open Instagram, Messenger and Facebook itself, they found to their horror that the apps would simply not launch.

This isn't the first time Facebook has bee caught abusing iOS enterprise certs; Apple previously booted the firm's data-slurping Onavo VPN app from the App Store for violating violated Cupertino's strict privacy rules.

Apple's revocation of Facebook's Enterprise Developer Certificate came as a bit of a surprise to the public and to Facebook, who probably counted on getting just a light slap on the wrist. These certificates are only meant for employers to get root access to their employees' work iPhones.

Facebook also disputed that the program is specifically targeted at teens - but at least some of the attempts to enlist users are specifically aimed at people between 13 and 17, and feature a "parental consent agreement" that is nothing but a tick-box, according to TechCrunch.

"Like many companies, we invite people to participate in research that helps us identify things we can be doing better".

"Facebook has been using their membership to distribute a data-collecting app to consumers, which is a clear breach of their agreement with Apple", Apple said.

However, he refused to admit that the said app is violating Apple's developer policy though failed to elaborate how they are complying with the rules laid down by Tim Cook's team.

Apple banning these companies from running internal iOS apps have pretty serious consequences.

The latest revelation has gone on to prove that Zuckerberg is willing to go to any length and even spend out of his pocket to continue to maintain his dominance.

People who participated in the consumer research typically received $5 to $10 to download the app and up to $20 a month to keep it active.

RIP User trust and privacy!
