Germany wants to avoid banning Huawei from 5G networks, report says

Huawei President BCG Ryan Ding

The Public Affairs Director, Huawei, Austin Zhang stated that there is no valid reason for the Polish government to keep the company out of its upcoming 5G network development. In it, Ryan Ding, president of Huawei's carrier business group said the process of adapting its software and engineering processes to meet the UK's requirements was "like replacing components on a high-speed train in motion".

Huawei has raised suspicions in the west for its close ties to the Chinese government and fears are that the company may be an integral tool of the superpower's worldwide espionage capabilities.

"Over the years that we've worked with Huawei, we've not yet seen anything that gives us cause for concern", Marc Allera, the CEO of BT's consumer brands, told CNN on Friday.

The main basis for Washington's fears is a perception that Huawei is linked to the Chinese government and that the use of the company's equipment risks the possibility of backdoors that could be used for espionage.

A $2 billion effort by China's Huawei to address security issues raised in a British government report last year will take between three and five years to produce results, according to a company letter to British lawmakers seen by Reuters.

It is likely that Trump may sign an order banning use of Chinese telecom equipment in USA networks citing security issues.

Liu will reiterate that Huawei has not and would never harm the interests of customers or countries.

Governments in Europe, Japan, and Australia are also considering or have ordered bans on Huawei equipment.

Following meetings with the European Commission and the Belgian government in Brussels, U.S. officials were also set to take a message to France, Germany, and other capitals that the world's biggest telecommunications gear maker poses a security risk, said the official, who declined to be named.

Huawei defended itself in a letter to United Kingdom lawmakers made public this week, saying that it would take up to five years to see "tangible results" in upgrading its systems.

Huawei is additionally offering to construct a cybersecurity hub in Poland "if authorities accept this as a trusted solution", Reuters reported Huawei Poland head Tonny Bao as saying.

In December, Huawei's chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada at the request of the US.

The US considers the matter urgent as European Union countries prepare to roll out 5G networks that will deliver near-instantaneous connectivity, vast data capacity and futuristic technologies to Europeans. And in January, DOJ unsealed a suite of charges against Huawei and its chief financial officer, who faces extradition to the United States for violating sanctions on Iran.
