Purported hackers stole USA evidence to discredit Mueller probe -filing

Non-public materials from special counsel case used in pro-Russian effort to discredit Russia probe

A total of 13 Russians were also indicted along with Concord in the case, and as As CNN's Shimon Prokupecz also flagged in a tweet, the sensitive information involves "identifies uncharged individuals and entities that the government believes are continuing to engage in operations that interfere with lawful US government functions like those activities charged in the indictment". "We got into a Russian lawyer company local net that had permission from ReedSmith (Russian attorneys) to view and download all the files they need from their database through the remove server".

That, "and the fact that over 1,000 files on the webpage match those produced in discovery, establish that the person (s) who created the webpage had access to at least some of the non-sensitive discovery produced by the government in this case", Mueller said in his filing.

The Kremlin-backed disinformation campaign that targeted Mueller's office failed to gain any traction, however, as the contents of a fake trove of the special counsel's files were immediately dismissed as largely fabricated by the reporter and researcher who received them.

The FBI also obtained evidence the account used to set up the file-sharing portal was registered by a user with an IP address in Russian Federation, prosecutors said.

"Mueller's court filing on Wednesday said the names and structure of folders containing the leaked files matched those used by Mueller's office when it shared the data, and that these had not been made public", The Guardian informs.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he would let the Justice Department decide how to handle the special counsel's report on an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and any alleged collusion or obstruction of justice by Trump, his campaign or administration. The Mueller documents were largely "images of political memes from Facebook and other social media" that were posted during the 2016 election by the Internet Research Agency, a Russian social media troll farm.

Russian hackers stole and then misrepresented evidence connected to the continuing prosecution of Russian companies accused of leading a propaganda campaign to influence the 2016 United States election, a court has heard.

A lawyer for Concord didn't return a phone message.

"Discovery is a fundamental right accorded to all defendants in all criminal cases".

Concord has argued the information sharing is needed to defend themselves in the case.

The filing also notes that the discovery files labeled "sensitive" identify "uncharged individuals" who government investigators believe are "continuing to engage in operations to interfere with lawful US government functions like those activities charged in the indictment". "To the extent Concord faces challenges in mounting its defense, it is because Prigozhin refuses to come to the United States to review the sensitive discovery", prosecutors wrote.

Mueller is leading a probe into Russia's purported meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and whether Trump or his campaign colluded with the Kremlin.
