Trump calls intelligence officials 'passive, naive'

US Intelligence Contradicts Trump on N. Korea, Iran, IS Threats

On Tuesday, CIA director Gina Haspel and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats testified in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee that Iran has been in compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal and has not been constructing a nuclear weapon.

The report also said Iran was not developing nuclear weapons, as the Trump administration has said, prompting a tweet from the president telling the intelligence heads to "go back to school".

Trump, in a rebuke that was reminiscent of his past criticisms of law enforcement officials, said earlier Wednesday on Twitter that the intel chiefs who contradicted him at a congressional hearing on Tuesday were "extremely passive and naive" on the matter. They are testing Rockets (last week) and more, and are coming very close to the edge.

"Perhaps Intelligence should go back to school!" he said in a series of tweets.

Trump withdrew from the agreement May 8, 2018, and vowed to place sanctions on Iran because of the agreement's "lack of perpetual ban on a nuclear program and how it fails to address the Islamic Republic's malign activity across the Middle East", reported The Daily Caller.

But more than eight months later, U.S. intelligence officials testified that there is no indication Iran is now attempting to develop a nuclear weapon and told lawmakers that Tehran remains in compliance with the agreement despite the USA withdrawal.

The assessment appears to throw cold water on the U.S.'s stated aim of achieving North Korea's full and verifiable denuclearization.

Pelosi's comments came as Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said it was "past time" for USA intelligence officials to stage an intervention with Trump.

"The President has a unsafe habit of undermining the intelligence community to fit his alternate reality", Warner tweeted.

Trump has challenged USA intelligence agencies' findings in the past, including casting doubt on their conclusion that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 US election with a campaign of hacking and propaganda to help him win the presidency.

Other ASEAN venues have also been mentioned of possibilities to be the summit venue though Singapore was the venue for the first Trump-Kim meeting in June a year ago. Federal Bureau of Investigation authorities recommended against awarding security a clearance to Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, but the White House overruled them because that authority stems from the president.

Trump followed up those comments with a tweet insisting that Coats and Haspel told him their testimony was distorted by the press and that they are all on the same page.

"China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea increasingly use cyber operations to threaten both minds and machines in an expanding number of ways - to steal information, to influence our citizens, or to disrupt critical infrastructure", Coats said.

He broke with decades of USA policy when he agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last June and has planned a second summit in February.

Trump said he was making "tremendous progress" with North Korea, but provided no evidence.

Trump's reaction "was extraordinarily inappropriate and will undermine public confidence in the United States government's efforts to protect our national security and preserve U.S. power and influence overseas", Schumer wrote in a letter to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats.

Central Intelligence Agency director Gina Haspel also warned ISIS was still unsafe after Trump claimed they had been beaten. Caliphate will soon be destroyed, unthinkable two years ago.
