VP Mike Pence calls for end to Maduro government in Venezuela

Venezuela's National Assembly head and self-proclaimed 'acting president' Juan Guaido said he believes the military is fed up of the regime

Following the US -led campaign against Venezuela's democratically elected President Nicolas Maduro, the European Parliament Thursday called on the EU member states to recognize Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the interim president. As Rubio notes, Guaido's 20-month-old daughter and grandmother were there when the troops arrived.

The bloc has agreed to lead an global crisis group of 10 to 12 countries and is expected to hold its first meeting next week in Montevideo, the diplomats said. So do not cross the red line, functionaries (Maduro employees). In a tweet, the police denied having gone to his home and said the allegations were "totally false". Mr Guaido said it was time to put pressure on the Maduro regime, to shift support away from those responsible for oppression and to back efforts to ensure a democratic transition of government took place as soon as possible.

Guaido does not yet control any of the state's functions, which remain loyal to Maduro despite the opposition's calls for defections.

Venezuela is one of the four biggest suppliers of crude oil to the United States, which is one of the country's biggest buyers, taking in some 41 percent of all crude oil exports.

Guaido said, "The family is sacred" and added, "To the functionaries who believe that they can cross the red line, to the functionaries who believe they can act cowardly, involving themselves with the family, because there are all types of codes (of conduct) in all kinds of events".

Bolivia and Mexico continue to recognize Maduro.

Organization of American States chief Luis Almagro denounced the "intimidation" of Guaido. The publication cites sources in Dubai in claiming that the plane unloaded gold into the UAE central bank's armored cars and was loaded with an unspecified amount of US dollars in cash. "Shame on you Maduro". The proclamation came after the opposition-controlled National Assembly declared President Nicolas Maduro's second-term "illegitimate".

The military's top leadership is backing Maduro, though analysts warn that rank-and-file troops frustrated by their country's economic and humanitarian crisis may not share that unwavering loyalty. The socialist government of Spain, which has strong historical, cultural and economic ties to Venezuela, has said it will do so on Monday if Maduro doesn't call a general election before Sunday.

Maduro's critics also hope to encourage similar moves by European countries.

Reverol said security forces seized two rifles and 500 armbands bearing the letters "OC", which he said stands for "Operation Constitution".

The government called for a mass rally Thursday to denounce US sanctions against Venezuela's state-owned oil company that could starve Maduro's government of billions in export revenue but turnout was no more than a few hundred people.

Maduro is however backed by the country's powerful military, as well as the regimes in Russian Federation and China that provide financial support.

The announcement was welcomed by huge crowds in the capital and recognised by a chorus of world leaders, including US Vice President Mike Pence, who issued a video message supporting Guaido's "courageous decision".

Guaidó is pressing forward with establishing a transitional government after swearing himself in as the nation's rightful president.

Guaido has the backing of the U.S. and all the usual suspects that are normally in lockstep with Washington's foreign policy.

The EU legislature also approved a resolution that condemned the continued violence and the detention of journalists who sought to cover events there.

The assembly leader has scored key victories in recent days.
