'Outrageous' claims Julian Assange smeared faeces on embassy walls

Police bundle Wiki Leaks founder Julian Assange from the Ecuadorian embassy into a police van in London after he was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police and taken into custody Thursday

The first thing that everyone wanted to know was why the embassy had terminated their protection of Assange after seven years.

In an effort to present the leaks in as damaging a light as possible, Brown reproduces one nearly cartoonish exchange, claiming "after the release of the Afghanistan War Reports, a member of the Taliban contacted the New York Times" and stated: "We are studying the report..."

A set of anonymous documents known as the INA Papers also was released this year, the Daily Beast reports, and alleged that Moreno benefited from a corrupt deal with a Chinese firm.

Javier Jara, undersecretary of the electronic government department of the telecommunications ministry, said the country had suffered "volumetric attacks" that blocked access to the internet following "threats from those groups linked to Julian Assange".

Real did not attribute the hacking attempts to any group in particular, and said it would be hard to identify the hackers.

"We never tried to expel Assange, as some political actors want everyone to believe".

Before evicting Assange, Moreno said he sought assurances from Britain that Assange would not "suffer torture, ill treatment or the death penalty" were he to be taken into custody or extradited to another country.

"Ecuador has made these allegations to justify the unlawful and extraordinary act of letting police come inside an embassy", Robinson told the UK's Sky News.

The U.S. indictment, originally issued in secret by an Alexandria, Virginia-based grand jury in March 2018, said Assange in March 2010 engaged in a conspiracy to help Manning crack a password for a classified U.S. government network.

If Stockholm makes a formal extradition request, the British government will have to decide whether to consider it before or after that of the United States.

"The European Union must take action to protect a politically-persecuted publisher and journalist", said the German politician, calling on Spain and her home country to grant Assange asylum.

They are expected to fight to have him extradited to the U.S. for allegedly conspiring with former army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to break into a classified government computer.

It's the latest chapter in a almost decade-long legal saga for Assange. In 2012, Assange was accused of rape in Sweden, which led him to flee to the embassy where he spent six years and 10 months living in a small room. Assange traveled to Britain, where a court ruled in 2012 to extradite him to Sweden.

He had been confined to the embassy until his arrest last week.
